On Saturday, August 9th, VOUS Church officially launched its 5th official location in South Beach. After years of conviction and months of preparation, our team got together for the official launch. In an act of obedience, God was able to open a new door.
With every new location, comes unique learning opportunities, challenges, and a fresh opportunity to reach people and disciple them into their next steps in their faith journey.
Vision & Conviction
The launch of VOUS South Beach did not begin with a strategy; it began with a calling and a deep conviction.
For over 10 years, this location had been on the hearts of our pastors, Pastors Rich and DawnCheré Wilkerson. While the vision was clear, the timing was something submitted to God, allowing Him to work the pieces together for what we cannot always see in the moment. This step of faith became less about having all the answers and more about saying ‘yes’ in obedience to where He was calling us next.
The confirmation was not found in perfect clarity, it was found in alignment. God spoke, and the opportunity followed.
Planning The Runway
While we don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all formula to launching a new location, we have found that healthy timelines help create a healthy foundation.
In November 2025, Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr. shared the vision with our annual Vision Sunday. During Vision Sunday, Pastor Rich will share the vision initiatives for the year ahead as well as the vision statement. This year, we leaned into the phrase Legacy Work, leaning into Psalm 102:18, building for a generation not yet created. VOUS South Beach is further evidence of that conviction to lay the foundation for families and generations to come to praise the Lord right there in the darkest places of Miami. By July 19, 2026, we opened the doors for our first of two soft launches, less than a month before our official opening on August 9, 2026. In those eight months from November to July, there was a lot of behind-the-scenes programming taking place to prepare the team, space, and community for the VOUS South Beach location. And while that timeline proved strong, we learned that eight months may be the ideal runway for a location launch.
While context is different for every church and city, one key distinction we’ve learned is this: planting a church from scratch and launching an additional location for an existing church require different approaches. For us, this season was about building intentionally within the community and our church family, all while within a defined window of time.

Building The Right Foundation
One of our values here at VOUS is People Are Our Heart: Our heart is for ALL people. All people are loved by Jesus. We make no apologies for being specifically focused on reaching those far away from God. We desire to bring the broken home at all costs. We believe that our light is best seen in the night. So when preparing for the launch of VOUS South Beach, we knew where to start: with people. It takes people with willing hearts to be involved to build something great, building something eternal. VOUS Church isn’t built on the talents of a few but on the sacrifices of many. Together, we’re able to get people in the right seat on the bus serving in the spaces and places they feel called to.
The first step was building the right team, first who, then what. This primarily began with our leadership team which included pastors, executive leadership, and department directors coming together in alignment. From there, we identified Servant Leaders who were already part of our community, those looking to step into leadership, and those who are feeling called to step into serving and building VOUS South Beach.
We held three VOUS South Beach Interest Meetings for those with a calling to learn more. These were held monthly starting in April, three months prior to the soft launch. Designed to prepare each team tactically, it was equally important for us to prepare the team spiritually. Interest meetings began in worship, shared vision, and concluded in prayer. As a community, we came around three guiding words for these meetings: inform, prepare, activate.
Ultimately, the strength of a location is carried by the people who build it.
Reaching The Community
Before we open the doors of Sunday service, it was important for us to serve the community first.
We knew South Beach was a community we wanted to partner with. We began by building relationships with Miami Beach Senior High School, the current location of our Sunday services. Our heart was to serve the administration, teachers, and staff. Before we ever hosted a Sunday service, building a relational foundation in the community was a priority.
In addition, we hosted a historic I Love My City. For the first time in church history, we gathered across all five VOUS Church locations on a Saturday in May 2026. For the months of May, June and July, VOUS South Beach deployed Servant Leaders across South Beach to be the hands and feet of Jesus, partnering with local organizations to go into the city and serve it through our church-wide I Love My City outreaches.
From the beginning, our posture was simple: we are here to love and serve our city.
Communication That Builds Buy-In
The most effective communication was people. People sharing their personal call to VOUS South Beach with others, extending personal invitations, and testifying about what God is doing in their lives. Personal invitations from leaders played a key role in building the team early on which created clarity, ownership and trust.
Communication was equally supported through our church-wide text message platform, MailChimp emails, and social media. Communication started prior to interest meetings and was supported thereafter for awareness, nurturing and generating an anticipation around what was coming.

Operational Realities
Excellence Is Our Spirit, another one of our VOUS Values, aims to set a standard of doing the best we can with what we have. It’s our responsibility to be on time, engaged and prepared. If we’re going to do it, we’re going to do it to the best of our ability. Clear, effective and efficient logistics are vital to the flow of Sunday and beyond. The goal is to eliminate distractions and provide clarity to the spaces we’re serving.
Storage was the biggest tension to manage we experienced when launching VOUS South Beach. To confront the tension head on, we implemented clear playbooks, inventory tracking, labeled storage, and structure load in and load out procedures. Lessons Learning
One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is the importance of margin. One of our VOUS Staff Values is Remain Flexible. It’s the reminder that having plans is important but our response to a change of plans reveals our character. Creating margin to remain flexible is essential. Shipping delays may happen, items might go missing, and there might be unexpected changes, but remembering the reason why you’re building, to give glory to God, will sustain you through it all.
