How to Steward New People and New Believers This Christmas Season

What we celebrate, we cultivate. And what we cultivate can turn a single decision into a lifetime of devotion.

VOUS Team

Every Christmas, churches around the world witness the same miracle: people stepping into relationship with Jesus for the first time, people returning after years away, and people longing to grow deeper in their faith as a new year approaches.

Families come together. Friends accept invitations. First-time guests take a chance. And by the grace of God—many say yes to Jesus.

Wherever someone may be on their spiritual journey, our responsibility is the same to meet people where they are and walk with them toward where God is calling them. A salvation moment is holy, but discipleship is what transforms a moment into a movement. And the question every church must ask is simple:

How do we steward people well once they’ve taken their first step—or their next step—toward Jesus?

At VOUS, we’ve spent years shaping a pathway that is both simple and intentional—designed to resource people at every stage of their faith journey. Our hope is that this guide becomes a helpful tool for pastors, teams, and ministries preparing for the harvest of new believers and guests this Christmas season. In this article, we share how we move people from decision → development → discipleship by making each step clear, relational, and accessible.

Step 01. Make the First Step Clear: The Connect Card

Salvation is personal— but follow-up is practical. One of the simplest and most effective tools we use is the Connect Card. It’s our way of saying: "We see you. We're with you. Let's walk together."

Our Connect Card helps identify:

  • First-time guests
  • Salvation and baptism decisions
  • Interest in VOUS Crews and Care Crews
  • Opt-in for church communication

Connect Cards are available both in service and online. Because if you want someone to take a step, show them the step—and walk with them through it. At every service, we invite people to bring their Connect Card to the white tent in our courtyard: our Connect Corner.

Step 02. Create a Place for People to Belong: The Connect Corner

After every service, we encourage anyone who made a decision for Christ to stop by the Connect Corner, where our servant leaders are ready to greet them with warmth and care.

Here, our team:

  • Celebrates decisions
  • Answers questions
  • Prays with people
  • Places a Bible in their hands
  • Helps them get connected

Most importantly, the Connect Corner gives people a face, not just a form. Discipleship is relational, and this is often where the relationship begins.

Step 03. Follow Up With Care: The “Welcome to the Family” Monday Email

Within 24 hours, every new believer and every new guest receives a personalized welcome email from Pastor Rich and Pastor DawnCheré.

This simple but intentional touchpoint includes:

  • A celebratory welcome
  • A clear connection point into community
  • A direct link to our Spiritual Formation Guide
  • An invitation to join Growth Track

It’s warm. It’s pastoral. It’s practical. And it reinforces a simple truth: You’re not alone as you take your next step.

Step 04. Equip People for Growth: The New Believers’ Guide

Our New Believers’ Guide is a foundational resource placed in the hands of every person beginning their walk with Jesus.

Inside, we answer core questions like:

  • What is salvation?
  • Why follow Jesus?
  • What is God’s Word?
  • What is sin?
  • How did Jesus overcome sin?
  • What is sanctification?
  • What are my next steps?

It’s not about overwhelming people with information, it's about giving them a trusted guide as they begin the journey of faith.

The Invitation We Carry

Christmas is one of the greatest opportunities we have all year to cultivate new faith. Stewardship in this season matters. Stewardship is discipleship. But ultimately, the goal is simple: Help people take one step closer to Jesus.

This Christmas, as new people walk through your doors, we're reminded that every Connect Card represents a story, every conversation is a seed, every resource is an invitation, every next step is discipleship in motion.

You don’t have to overwhelm people, and you don’t have to reinvent your systems. All you have to do is simply make the next step clear, accessible, relational, and Spirit-led.

What we celebrate, we cultivate. And what we cultivate can turn a single decision into a lifetime of devotion.
