There’s something sacred about the creative process, especially when you invite the Holy Spirit to take the lead. For the VOUS Worship team, that invitation shaped every note, lyric, and spontaneous turn on our new album Dying to Be Different. We sat down with Caroline, one of the vocalists and writers, to pull back the curtain on what God is doing behind the scenes.
A Sound Born in the Moment
Some of the most powerful songs aren’t planned, they’re encountered. Caroline shared about a moment when the team had just wrapped a session and was packing up to leave. That’s when a fresh melody began to stir.
“It was completely different from what we had just recorded, but it caught our attention. We stayed a little longer, and in just an hour and a half, Prodigal Praise was born.”
What began as a passing idea became a prophetic anthem. Moments like these remind us that when you make room for God to move, He shows up with something more.

Stretching to New Heights
Every creative project stretches you, but Know You took it to a new level for Caroline, both vocally and spiritually.
“It pushed me out of my vocal comfort zone. I found a new pocket I hadn’t reached before,” she said. “But it wasn’t just technical. It was also emotional. The heart behind the song, the longing to know God more deeply, is so real to me. That’s the cry of all our hearts.”
It’s a reminder that worship isn’t performance. It’s pursuit. And sometimes, that pursuit will take you to places you didn’t know you could go.
Spirit-Led Surprises
While many tracks took shape in the studio, some moments couldn’t be written; they had to be lived. One of Caroline’s favorite memories came while recording Fall.
“As the song was ending, Nate led the room into a spontaneous moment of desperation for the Holy Spirit. It wasn’t planned, but the whole team unified, crying out, playing, and worshiping beyond the song. The presence of God was thick in the room. It marked us.”
The team decided to keep that moment on the album. You can hear it in the recording, not just as a track, but as a testimony.

A Call to Live Different
Ultimately, this album is more than a playlist; it’s a prayer. One that Caroline hopes resonates deeply with churches everywhere.
“My prayer is that this album stirs a new desperation in people and reminds us we weren’t made to blend in with the world, we were made to be different. That every song would be a call to die to self and live fully surrendered.”
For those leading in ministry, building churches, and pouring out week after week, this album is a reminder: we don’t lead in our strength. We lead with the Holy Spirit. We worship not out of routine, but out of revelation.
Let this be your soundtrack for the season and a spark for revival in your spirit.
