Born Again, Day by Day

What would help people fall in love with reading Scripture again?

VOUS Team

At VOUS Church, we celebrate moments of salvation often. We’ve watched people respond to altar calls with tears in their eyes, hands lifted, hearts open. Those moments are sacred, and you can feel when something eternal is happening in the room.

We realized that while we celebrate the decision beautifully, we needed to steward what came after with the same care and intention. Salvation is a moment, but discipleship is a journey.

But if you’ve been in ministry long enough, you know this too: the life of faith isn’t built on moments alone. It’s built in the days that follow. In the quiet. In the ordinary. In the daily return to God’s Word.

That realization shaped the heart behind the Born Again Journal.

This journal was never meant to be just for new believers. It was created for anyone who wants to grow in biblical literacy and develop a consistent relationship with Scripture. Whether someone has followed Jesus for five minutes or fifty years, the invitation is the same: return to the Word daily and let it form you over time.  We wanted to create a resource that honored the pace of formation, something that would help people take their first steps with confidence rather than confusion.

At its core, the Born Again Journal exists to help believers move from occasional inspiration to steady formation.

When Jesus tells Nicodemus in John 3 that he must be born again, He introduces a language of renewal and transformation that doesn’t stop at the moment of salvation. Being born again is the beginning of a life shaped by the Spirit and anchored in truth. We wanted to create a resource that helps believers live from that identity day by day, not just in defining moments.

Before we thought about design or layout, we started with a simple question: What would help people fall in love with reading Scripture again?

For some, the barrier is intimidation. The Bible can feel large, complex, and difficult to navigate. For others, it’s consistency. They want to read but don’t know where to start or how to stay engaged. We wanted to create something that felt approachable for everyone, something that provided structure without pressure.

The tone needed to be gentle, the structure needed to be clear, and the design needed to feel calm and uncluttered. We leaned into simplicity so nothing would compete with the content. We wanted the journal to create space: space to read Scripture, space to reflect, space to begin building rhythms that could last.

Even the production conversations felt pastoral. We talked about cost, durability, and accessibility. Could this be something we could place in someone’s hands immediately? Could a church give this away freely if needed? Could it serve as a bridge between a decision and a life of discipleship?

Because the goal was always not to create a product, but to create a pathway.

At VOUS, the Born Again Journal isn’t a standalone resource. It’s part of a larger discipleship rhythm. We place it in people’s hands after salvation moments, we give it out at the Connect Corner, we reference it in follow-up emails and pastoral conversations.

The Born Again Journal is built as a 365-day journey through Scripture. It gives believers a clear pathway to engage the Word daily, helping them build rhythm, understanding, and confidence over time. Each day offers Scripture, space to reflect, and a moment to slow down. It’s simple by design because consistency matters more than complexity.

As we developed the journal, we kept returning to the same conviction: The goal is not just reading the Bible. The goal is loving the Word of God.

That shaped everything from tone to structure to design. We leaned into clarity and white space so the journal would feel calm and accessible rather than overwhelming. We wanted it to feel like an invitation rather than an assignment. Something you could return to each morning with anticipation rather than obligation.

Within the life of our church, the journal has become a shared rhythm. We encourage our community to walk through it together across the year, allowing Scripture to anchor us in every season. Throughout the year, it gives structure to personal devotion. Over time, it builds familiarity with Scripture and confidence in engaging it personally.

For other churches, the takeaway is not necessarily to create the same journal. The takeaway is to create a clear, accessible pathway for people to engage the Bible consistently.

If you’re considering building a resource for your community, start with formation rather than format. Ask what would help your people develop a love for God’s Word. Simplicity is often more effective than complexity. A daily rhythm with Scripture, a short reflection, and space to respond can go a long way in helping people stay anchored.

Integration is key. Encourage leaders to reference the reading plan in services and small groups. Build it into the life of your church so it becomes a shared journey rather than a private task. When Scripture becomes a communal rhythm, it strengthens the whole body.

At VOUS, the Born Again Journal is one way we’re stewarding that calling. It’s a reminder that discipleship is not built in moments alone but in daily return. It’s a tool to help believers, new and seasoned alike, grow in their knowledge of Scripture and their love for the God who speaks through it.

Because a church that loves the Word becomes a church that lives the Word.
