Root Of All Evil: Breaking Free From The Master Of Money

“

The question isn’t simply, “How much money do I have?” It’s, “How much of my heart does money have?”

VOUS Team

Scripture doesn’t teach that money is evil. It warns us about the love of money. What begins as something we possess can quietly become something that possesses us, shaping our motives, directing our decisions, and competing for our devotion.

In this Collection of Talks, Root Of All Evil, we explore what it means to put money in its proper place through biblical stewardship. Everything we have has been entrusted to us by God, and how we manage it is part of how we follow Him. Through this collection, we discover a life where contentment is greater than comparison, generosity defeats greed, and provision produces gratitude instead of pride. Our security rests in Who has us.

For pastors and church leaders, teaching stewardship is an opportunity to help people grow in trust, wisdom, and faithfulness. We’re sharing this collection to support those conversations in your church, with messages that challenge our relationship with money and offer practical direction for stewarding what God has placed in our hands.

The question isn’t simply, “How much money do I have?” It’s, “How much of my heart does money have?”

Money is a resource. God is the source.

Inside The Collection

‍

Week 01: In God We Trust

Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr.

Our approach to stewardship begins with what we believe about our source. Drawing from Deuteronomy 8, Pastor Rich reminds us that God gives us the ability to produce wealth and invites us to trust Him as our Provider and Security. This opening message establishes the foundation for the collection: surrender includes every area of our lives, including our finances.

‍

Week 02: More Than Enough

Pastor DawnCheré Wilkerson

How much is enough? Greed keeps moving the goalpost, convincing us that satisfaction is always one purchase or achievement away. Pastor DawnCheré explores Jesus’ teaching that life does not consist in an abundance of possessions and shows how generosity breaks greed’s grip. This message invites us to stop striving for more and begin faithfully stewarding what is already in our hands.

‍

Week 03: Entrusted

Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr.

Stewardship reaches beyond our bank accounts to include our time, talent, and treasure. In “Entrusted,” Pastor Rich explores what it means to recognize God’s ownership and put what He has given us to work for His glory. This talk challenges us to consider our faithfulness with what we already have before asking for more.

‍

Week 04: Try Me

Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr.

What does it mean to put God first with our finances? Pastor Rich unpacks the biblical meaning of tithing as a spiritual discipline that develops trust and shapes our hearts. Addressing motives and misconceptions, this message helps people move from good intentions toward a plan for intentional generosity. The tithe is ten percent of our income, but it’s training one hundred percent of our heart.

‍

Week 05: The Prosperity Principles

Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr.

The collection closes with practical guidance for building a financially healthy life. Pastor Rich shares seven biblical habits, including tithing, generosity, saving, budgeting, avoiding unnecessary debt, and living with gratitude. This message frames prosperity around having what we need to fulfill what God has called us to do, helping people take practical steps toward faithful stewardship.
